The Uniqueness That Is You!
We all come into this world the same way and leave the same way. The in-between may be different, but after a while we see we all have our stories. Our joys, our secrets, our shames, our traumas, our triumphs… all of these add up to a life.
We are divine beings having a human experience.
Yet somehow, by well-intentioned people in our lives, we are shaped and covered over until we are unrecognizable to ourselves. Who we truly are is often hidden from the world until we can no longer show our hearts, our souls. We dance the dance of hide-and-seek, never letting others see our dark side or our inner light. But eventually, we get to a place where we long to be seen.
We need to bloom- to let go of the fear, the shame, the pain. We must break free just to be. As Michael Angelo said, “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.” We need to chip away at all that doesn’t belong in order to reveal the hidden beauty for all to see.
I feel this is what happens to most all of us. We get stuck in all the should-be, have-to-be, just to ‘fit’. We adjust. We settle. Then one day it is too painful, too shameful not to be seen. So we put down our masks- our armor- to let everyone see, for better or worse, what is truly there. And what we find is our humanity. The humanity that we were born to share, to give to the world.
We all want the same things- to love and be loved.
If we do not chip away at our outer layers and strip down to our true selves, we not only deny ourselves our full expression of being, but we also deny the world of our shared humanity. There is only one you and your unique being will only happen once in this world. With all your strengths and weakness, you are divine perfection.
The cracks are where the light comes through.
If you live your life and never share your uniqueness with the world, the world will be missing an important piece of the puzzle of humanity. Your piece. The world needs the uniqueness that is you. No one else can fill your shoes or take your place. Stand up and take your place… the world is waiting!
